WCAWG received a request to investigate a
report of dogs abandoned at an empty house. On arrival at the house, there were 8 dogs
and a pony abandoned with no food or water. Two of the dogs were already dead
from huger and disease. On checking the shed, our Welfare
Representative heard a pitiful wimpering comining from under the floor boards.
Further investigation revealed two puppies. One was already dead, the other had
given up all hope and had crawled into the whole next to his dead sister to die. The puppy was nearly bald from mange,
starving and dehydrated. He was treated by a veterinary surgeon and it was touch
and go whether or not he would survive. We named him Widget and with lots of love and
care from our Chairman, he made a remarkable recovery and has now been
sucessfully rehomed. He will always require medication as his lungs were
weakened and under developed but his medication enables him to lead a normal
life.
