Before - Luka when he was picked up in Crossbarry
Luka was found wandering in the Crossbarry area in an appalling state. Virtually emaciated, he was suffering very badly with mange. Someone working in the village supermarket contacted us and Luka's fortunes suddenly took a turn for the better. On checking his ear tatoo, we could tell he was almost two years old. On checking records, it became apparent that Luka had not raced - obviously when his owner discovered that Luka was not going to be good enough to win races, he decided to just abandon him to goodness knows what fate. After receiving the necessary treatment for his mange and after a number of weeks of good food, Luka turned the corner. A UK charity Greyhounds-R-Us which is run by the mother of one of our members set about looking for a lovely home for the much-loved Luka. Remi from Ash Animal Rescue transported Luka to England. A family in Dorset saw a photo of Luka on www.greyhounds-r-us.co.uk and fell in love with him. He is now doing really well and is extremely happy with his new life and his new mate, the family's other greyhound, Kwala. He is so settled that he doesn't even bother chasing the family's chickens! After - out for a walk with new owners and their other greyhound Kwala.
Luka's story is an example of how well different rescue groups can work together to give these dogs a new start. |
