Fundraising

These are some of the fundraising events that our supporters have organised during 2011

This beautiful Labradoodle, Abbie, died recently of Addison's disease, only 4 years old. Her owner Anne very kindly sent us a donation in memory of the lovely Abbie.
In October we entered Vicky Barham into the Charity Hero awards for Ireland which celebrate an individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to a good cause. The public were invited to vote for the 38 nominees and Vicky came 2nd in the public votes. We were thrilled with this achievement and thank everyone who supported us by voting for Vicky.
Daphne and Catriona who are pupils at Mercy Heights Secondary School in Skibereen organised a cake sale on November 18th with the help of staff and students which raised €300 for the animals at our rescue centre.
Margaret O'Sullivan ran in the September Ladies Mini Marathon in Cork again this year and raised €180.
She is pictured here with her dog Roy who is a rescue dog that she adopted when he was 5 months old approx. He was dumped in a car park in Cork and was brought into the shelter there. He was in a terrible condition covered in mange, starved and not really able to walk. As you can see he is now a fine healthy & happy dog who will never again be subjected to any cruelty.
Vicky organised a music evening in Hackett's Bar, Schull on Thursday November 3rd with music by the Shoe String Band and special guest singer Terri Leiber. It was a great evening and raised €210 for the animals.
Many thanks to all those involved in making the evening such a success.
We would like to thank all the staff at Pet Stop, Kinsale Rd, Cork who worked so hard on Monday afternoon to make their Halloween Party such a success.
The rescue dogs we took with us were elegantly dressed by the staff at Petstop and then enjoyed being walked by children and adults who came to the party.
The raffle raised €286.90 for which we are very grateful.
We would like to thank the O'Driscoll family who donated some pet food instead of buying a birthday present for their daughter Cliona who had expressed that she didn't need anything for herself.
Gillian and her family organised a "Strawberry Shortcake Saturday" on September 10th and raised €1200.
It was very well attended by approx 140 people and a great day with lots of activities organised for all the family. A very big thank you to Gillian, her family and friends who worked extremely hard to make the day such a success.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us on Saturday 27th August for the “Take the Lead” Dog Walk around Castlefreke Woods and helped us to raise €1985.
We were amazed by the response and delighted to see over 100 people with their dogs many of whom had been adopted from us in recent years.
A big thank you also to those who walked our rescue dogs. It was a great afternoon out for them and there was a lot of snoring in the kennels that evening.
We are very grateful to All for Animals who organised 10 walks throughout Ireland on Saturday and to Husse Pet Nutrition who sponsored the walks and were present with their marquee and lots of tasty samples for the dogs on the day.

On Sunday March 8th 2009 Vicky and Arthur took their two dogs Teddy and Jack out on their regular walk and by 11pm that evening they had both died from poisoning despite every effort from their vet to save them. In April 2009 Vicky & Arthur adopted Molly a retriever x from us and have been organising regular fundraising music events at Schull market since Summer 2009. They have now raised €10,000 in memory of their two dogs Teddy and Jack.
If you would like to listen to a sample of the music or buy a CD to help our funds log onto www.theshoestringband.com
Carmel will be running in the Mini Marathon in Cork on September 25th to raise funds for us.
She has a gorgeous Great Dane called Harvey who is posing in the picture.
Last year a client asked her if she knew of anyone that could give him a home. She took one look and couldnt say no to those big brown eyes!!
Unfortunately Carmel had back problems & wasnt able to run but still raised €150 which her sponsors were more than happy for her to donate to the animals.
Shirley Kelly took part in the 10k Bandon Road Race in May and raised €520 for our rescue centre. Included in the total is some money that Shirley's eldest daughter donated given to her by the tooth fairy when her front tooth fell out. Here Shirley is pictured with her family and her daughter is sporting a lovely smile showing the missing tooth.
The Jellyfish Surf Shop in Clonakilty raised €400 euro and we'd like to thank everyone who was involved in raising funds for our rescue centre.

Vicky is pictured here with her family after presenting us with the cheque. Photos of Ollie can be seen on the success stories page.

Instead of charging for the evening they are asking for donations to the West Cork Animal Welfare Group. To find out more about the evening log on to their web site. www.corkmovementcentre.com
Siobhan is doing a Parachute Jump to raise money for us on December 11th. This will be her fourth Skydive, two previous jumps have been in Ireland and one in Cape Town, South Africa last year. She loves the thrill and challenge of the jump and we're delighted she's chosen to sponsor our rescue centre. Siobahn is an animal lover and is seen here with her Boxer, Spud.

Catriona and Shannagh are sisters who both love animals and were very keen to raise some money for the dogs at our rescue centre so they set about collecting items to take to a car boot sale on January 24th in West Cork where they raised €100.
