Can you help us to look after the many stray, unwanted and abandoned animals that come into our rescue centre by raising funds?

We are extremely thankful to everyone who supports us by organizing fundraisers and are often amazed at the ideas people think of to raise money. It's especially encouraging to see young people who love animals helping to make a difference to the lives of the dogs and cats in our centre by using their talents and abilities to raise funds.

Below are some of the fundraising events that have taken place in 2009.

Sam who adopted Zak as a puppy  four years ago is running in the Cork City Marathon on June 7th 2010 to raise funds for the dogs in our rescue centre.

If you would like to sponsor Sam and help her raise funds click on the donate button below.

Catriona and Shannagh are sisters who both love animals and were very keen to raise some money for the dogs at our rescue centre so they set about collecting items to take to a car boot sale on January 24th in West Cork where they raised €100.

The O'Donovan family lost their son Ross in a tragic accident involving a forklift truck this year. As Ross was a young man who loved animals, the family made a video during the funeral which they sold raising €1000. We were given the cheque at an evening presentation in Bandon which was very well represented by friends and family.

Maeve D'Alton from the ESB in Wilton, Cork presenting Jennifer Headlam, chairperson of West Cork Animal Welfare with a cheque for €500 in November 2009.

Suzanne, wearing number 9052 raised €650 running the Dublin Marathon in October which she completed in 3 hours 54 mins. Suzanne adopted a wiry terrier Doffo from us and says "Doffo has been my training partner so it's only fair that the sponsor monies raised go back to where he came from! He's done all the training but unfortunately he's not allowed to enter the marathon!! There's no rabbits to chase anyway, so he would have found it a bit dull!"

The Cork Mini Marathon took place on September 28th 2009 and Mary Morrish who adopted Sid, a golden Labrador from us in June 2008 raised €205. Jennifer O'Sullivan raised €540

Alice Crowley whose black Labrador Billy enjoyed running with Alice whilst she was in training raised €652.

Catherine and Aoife O'Connor entered their dog Sean who they adopted from us in April 2009 and raised €260. Sean is pictured here looking very proud wearing his number on his back.

Charity Busking at Schull Sunday Market & two Music evenings at Hackett's Bar  has raised €2270 during 2009 in memory of Teddy & Jack

A sad warning to dog lovers

On Sunday March 8th we took our dogs Teddy and Jack for their usual walk which they thoroughly enjoyed and by 11pm that night they had both died from poisoning despite every effort from our vet to save them. We are devastated that two lovely dogs should die in this way.

Christine Thery an artist who lives on Heir Island raised €1150 in July from the sale of her painting "Poppit and the Seal" which she donated to us in memory of her dog Poppit. The painting was sold at the Morris Gallery in Skibbereen and we would like to thank Christine for donating the proceeds of the painting and the gallery owners, Aidan & Brenda Morris for donating the gallery's percentage of the sale.

The Heart Charity Shop in Bantry opened on May 1st and has donated €500 to us.

If you have any unwanted items, such as pots, pans, plates, cutlery, kitchenware, ornaments, pictures, frames, books, videos, DVD's, toys prams, electrical appliances, jewellry etc please consider taking them into HEART. They take everything EXCEPT clothes and shoes.

Liz Mahony a dog behavioural therapist who comes to our rescue centre each week to help us re-habilitate some of our more challenging  dogs with behavioural problems gave a talk called Animal Solutions in Bandon which raised €232.

Edie and Maisie from Co. Kerry who adopted Doffo, an adorable shaggy terrier almost 2 years ago wanted to help the dogs still at our rescue centre who haven't been as lucky as Doffo in finding a home yet. They asked their friends to give money to our charity instead of buying them birthday presents and came to visit us at Easter to bring us the €180 they had raised.
